Branding is all in the details. I take mine very, very seriously. So much so that at times, it can be daunting – but it’s who I am. Part of my brand is to keep my cut fresh and clean by visiting my man, Danny Acevedo, every two weeks.
I’ve always preached that the way you carry yourself tells your clients right away how they will be treated. If you don’t hold yourself to the highest standard, how can they expect you to take care of them or their business? Your actions will tell a story better than your words ever will.
Now, how does this relate to social media? Well, in order for my cut to look this good and my clients to put their trust in me, I have to be consistent. And consistency is always the key to any good marketing strategy. Without it, you’re in for a rollercoaster ride of pain and suffering – and sleepless nights wondering what you did wrong. Believe me, I’ve been there.
In order for your social media to be effective and organically grow, you need to be consistent.
That means taking the time to create meaningful content. Sitting down and deciding what your plan is. What networks are you looking to post on? How do you plan to post on those networks? Sizing, time, days, weeks, hours – yes, it gets that crazy!
Unfortunately for those of us who already spend countless hours running our businesses, this is not a maybe. This is not “When I get time.” This is a necessary part of your plan that can make or break your business, especially if you are not in a position to spend thousands of dollars on advertising.
No, that is not an exaggeration. Have you checked the pricing on digital ads these days? And don’t even get me started on print. It’s astronomical.
However, you can begin to combat these extra expenses by using time instead of cash. As you can see above, I spent countless hours trying to devise the correct marketing strategy in order to build my business to a point where I could rent an office space, purchase a building, recruit a team of professionals, and eventually be a leader.
Social media is one of the most crucial tools you have in taking over the world.
Next to networking, it will become a vital part of your success…or your demise. Let me give you a quick checklist to help get you started on social media consistency:
- Is your profile picture professional, high-res, and consistent across platforms?
- Does your bio clearly state your value proposition, industry focus, and a call-to-action?
- Is the header/banner image optimized for branding and visually appealing?
- Are all links (website, other socials, lead magnet) working and up-to-date?
- Profile handle/username is simple, memorable, and industry-relevant?
Once you go through each network and give it an audit using this list, you’re already ahead of more than 80% of the profiles in existence. You’d be surprised at how many companies leave their profiles in limbo. The dust bunnies are out there!
Don’t be like everyone else!
Start your path to consistent domination by posting what you know and the obvious services or products you or your business provide. Make sure your followers know exactly what you are offering and how awesome it is. And make sure you are doing that at least three times a week.
Once you’ve established that pattern of consistency, you can now start adding in the more extravagant posts and more memorable attempts at standing out amongst the crowds. But let’s make sure you’re crawling before you start running. The next stage is a doozy, but damn, it’s fun!
