‘Tis the season of giving, and in my case, donating to those less fortunate.
I’m a huge giver. I love giving things to people I love, making the extra effort, remembering what’s important to them, and at times it comes at a cost. I don’t normally care about that aspect of giving, but as recent as yesterday, it tested my faith in humanity.
The situation itself is a shitty one. I lost sleep over it. Super fucken angry about it. And though I know it shouldn’t matter because it’s all about the kids I’m helping – it fucken does.
My parents taught me many things, and one of the most important lessons was about respect.
You need to earn it.
You need to show it in order to get it.
And respect everyone no matter creed, color, etc.
So what’s the point of all this? To complain about an organization treating me like shit? To realize no matter how good you are to organizations, they will shower you with disrespect and then cover you in false “thank you” sentiments from their “board” and six-figure CEOs?
Bah, who knows. I think I’m just bitter.
In the end, I’ll give you this piece of advice. Research anyone and everyone you plan on helping. Make sure they deserve it. But also prepare to be disappointed. No good deed goes unpunished.
